RSS Compendium - RSS Readers - Cross-Platform

This list will, of course, never be complete. If I'm missing anything please let me know.

AmphetaDesk - a free, cross platform, open-sourced, syndicated news aggregator. Mac, Windows, Linux

The BBC Backstage RSS Ticker - a platform independent RSS ticker which sits on your desktop and simply rotates the news in a small window. The ticker offers the user complete customization, including colors, feeds, typing modes, and more. It was inspired by the BBC's original ticker application

BlogBridge - a new kind of Blog Reader, making it practical for a non-technical user to discover, follow and enjoy literally hundreds of feeds without losing their mind. Open Source. For Windows, Linux, Mac OSX

BottomFeeder - an RSS and OCS News reader/aggregator

Eclipse RSS Reader - allows the user to create RSS channels, connected on-line RSS feeds, and view the items they contain in several Eclipse views. Each channel can be updated from its source at regular intervals

Feed'n Read (FnR) - a free Java based open source newsfeed reader. It is powered by the Sun ROME syndication framework and therefore supports all current formats (RSS 0.90, 0.91, 0.92, 0.93, 0.94, 1.00, 2.00, ATOM 0.30 and 1.00). It disposes of an intuitive, fast and responsive user interface using the eclipse Rich Client Platform (RCP), i.e. JFace and SWT. Thus it combines the platform independent Java world on one hand with a fast native user interface on the other hand

Flock - an RSS aggregator written in Java. It is a server-side web application accessible with a browser, similar in spirit to AmphetaDesk

HotSheet - a program that retrieves news headlines from multiple websites, displays them, and allows you to interact with them. HotSheet is written in Java 2. That means it will run on most any machine with a Java Virtual Machine that is capable of running Java 2 applications (e.g. Windows 9X/NT/2000, Mac OS X, Solaris, Linux) can run it

litefeeds - web-based RSS reader. Feeds can also be read on mobile phones and Blackberry

MappedUp - an application that tracks a large number of RSS news sources and displays their latest items on a world map. For Windows and Mac

News Spotter - a desktop utility which fosters an addiction to current events. Its an RSS news reader. It monitors a list of news feeds and displays a visual alert when a new headline is downloaded. Most of the time, News Spotter sits quietly on the left or right side of your screen. But when a new headline is identified from one of its monitored web sites, News Spotter graphically displays the headline as a hyperlink. When you click on the headline, News Spotter opens the corresponding URL in your default browser. Written in pure Java and, theoretically, runs on any platform which supports the Java JRE 1.3.1 or greater

Radio UserLand - Every hour Radio's aggregator reads the "feeds" you're subscribed to, as few as a half-dozen, or as many as you like. Because Radio's aggregator is integrated with a powerful weblog tool, you can view it as a "content router." When you see an item that you want to amplify with your own comments, or pass on to others in your organization or interest group, with two clicks it can be on the home page of your weblog. For Windows and Macintosh

ReadAir - an OSX Themed Desktop Client for Mac or Windows

RSSOwl - a free RSS (0.91, 0.92, 1.0, 2.0) newsreader written in Java programming language using SWT as fast graphic library. Features of RSSOwl include reading RSS or RDF newsfeeds in a comfortable tab folder, save newsfeeds in categories, export them to PDF / HTML or OPML, and view news in an internal browser

Snackr - an RSS ticker that pulls random items from your feeds and scrolls them across your desktop. When you see a title that looks interesting, you can click on it to pop up the item in a window. Requires Adobe AIR runtime

ThinFeeder - a project that aims to provide a cross-platform, powerful and tiny RSS / Atom (currently RSS 0.9x, RSS 1.0 / RDF, RSS 2.0 and Atom 0.3) aggregator, using the Java development language, Thinlet and Informa libraries
